Sassano

Sassano is located on the northern slopes of Mount Cervati, in the valley of Tanagro. It is part of the Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano and the Mountain Community of Vallo di Diano.
Sassano is made up of the village and parts of Silla, Varco Notar Ercole and Caiazzano.

To visit the numerous churches of Sassano (including the chapel of San Michele lying on the homonymous hill) and the Tomb of Aurelio (Sassano also known as "Tomb of the crusader", or" Princess "or" the Countess").

 

Much is known and appreciated is the "Valley of orchids," during the month of May.

In the Valley of orchids (an "open structure" of 47 square kilometers of the valley) and along a path of 13 km, one can observe various species of wild orchids. The visitor can admire in particular entity of 184 wild orchids (68 species, 57 subspecies, 35 varieties, 24 hybrids).

 

     


The Museum of the ancient cultivation of Sassano keeps inside a "germoteca" and a seed bank of all ancient cereal crops, horticulture and fruit of the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano.

Among the typical products of Sassano are sure to remember those dairy including "caciocavallo to sopressata."

On June 24 they celebrate St. John the Baptist.
In August three-day festival is the "Ancient Flavors", while in September, again for three days, the festival's "September to Borgo."
