Montano Antilia

Montano Antilia is part of the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano and Mountain Zone Lambro and Mingardo.

Montano Antilia is a fascinating agglomeration of houses set along the slopes of Mount Antilia, which rises to a height of 1316 meters, the area declines towards the hills and valleys of the Lambro and Mingardo, while in the distance you see the Mount Gelbison , of pilgrimage of faith, and Mount Centaurino.

The name derives from San Montano, whose remains are kept in a reliquary rolled silver at the Church of SS Annunziata. The first settlements in the area where today there are Montano and the villages of Abatemarco and Massicelle, go back to uncertain times, but not before 1000 AD.

There are several buildings constructed in 1700 and 1800, which retain their original architecture and their portals in stone.

They are also to visit an old fountain with three cannelle, the Grotta del Mulinello (cave), the source of Malandrino, whose waters have found therapeutic properties.

The numerous monuments, the picturesque squares and streets, the many alleys that wind between a house and another, express a glorious history, rich in events.

The typical dish of Antilia Montano is the "pariglia": prepares frying peppers with onion and lard, add pieces of pork, game and peas. Other dishes are fried flowers, "ruspitielli" fried, beans in salad.

Event: S. Sebastiano January 20.
